The weather is warming up, pools are opening, and family beach vacations are around the corner. So let's review some key water safety principles. The first thing to cover is the sobering and alarming fact that accidental drowning remains the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4. Toddlers and young children are experts at momentarily escaping our supervision, and this can happen to anyone. The majority of accidental drownings do NOT happen during swim time when we are actively supervising. These fatalities are happening when children, who are curious by nature, find a way to get to water on their own.
