Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease

It is that time of year again where we have some cooler temps, gorgeous fall leaf colors, crockpot meals brewing while football games play on the TV, and...whomp whomp... Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD). This can occur at any time of year, but circulates most rampantly during late summer and early fall, often ignited by a return to school 🔥. The cause is Coxsackievirus, and while this occurs most often in children from late infancy to age 5, it can occur in older kids and adults as well.  Very young infants are actually rarely affected, thanks to passive immunity passed from mom through the placenta.
