When your child is radiating heat, it can be scary and hard to think straight. But keeping in mind what causes fever and what to do about it can help ease your worries. If you want the short version: Fevers are adaptive and not themselves dangerous. Somewhere along the line, parents got the message that fevers of a certain height demand a trip to the ER.
